Every article on Knowgens is original work and is protected by copyright. Unless a page says otherwise, the text is not offered under any open licence.
Short quotation needs no permission: quote a sentence or two in a review, essay, newsletter or class handout, naming Knowgens and linking to the article. Without written permission, please do not reproduce a whole article or the substance of one elsewhere, translate an article and publish the translation, republish the work under another name, or resell it as part of a paid product, course or ebook.
Illustrations and Images
Some illustrations on this site are generated using artificial intelligence. They are artistic interpretations made to accompany an article, not historical documentation, and they are not photographs of real people, places, manuscripts or artefacts. They should not be cited as visual evidence of how anything actually looked. Where any third-party image is used, it is used under an appropriate licence or as public-domain material and credited where credit is required.
If you would like to reuse an image from this site, write to us first and say which image and where it will appear.
Classical Texts, Translations and Quotation
The Sanskrit sources this site discusses, the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras and the Hatha texts, are ancient and not themselves in copyright. Translations of them are. A translation is a creative work with its own author, so we link to public-domain translations where a good one exists, name the translator whenever we quote, and keep quotations short and in service of commentary. This is fair dealing under Indian copyright law and fair use where United States law applies.
If a quotation here is misattributed, credited to the wrong translator, or longer than fair dealing allows, tell us and we will correct or remove it.
If You Believe Your Copyright Has Been Infringed
Write to us using the address on our Contact page with the words Copyright Notice in the subject line. A notice we can act on should contain all of the following:
- identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed
- the exact URL on knowgens.com where the material appears
- your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner
- your physical or electronic signature
We aim to acknowledge a notice within three working days and to reach a decision as quickly as the claim allows. Where a claim looks well founded, the material comes down or is corrected while it is reviewed. Incomplete notices are queried rather than ignored. If material of yours was removed in error, you may send a counter-notice to the same address.
Corrections and Attribution Requests
You do not need a lawyer to get a credit fixed. If your work, translation or research has been used or paraphrased here without proper acknowledgement, write and tell us what the credit should read. Reasonable requests are honoured and noted on the page, as our Editorial Policy describes.
